An article at the UK’s Guardian Unlimited cites both literary precedent and anecdotal evidence suggesting that reading isn’t just good for one’s mind, but for the body as well.
The article says quite a few places in Britain have adopted reading-for-self-healing sort of book groups; I wonder if there are (m)any here in the States? So many people are worried about books and literature becoming obsolete in the face of video games/the Internet/computers’ growing popularity. Starting book groups like this at libraries (either instead of or in addition to starting them in more health-oriented places like hospitals) would seem a good way to help keep books relevant.
