Impossible for the French to be serious about sex?
“The lighting is bordello red, but the librarians insist that their X-rated exhibition is serious” writes The New York Times on the Bibliothèque Nationale de France’s exhibition of their archive of erotic art.
Oh, please.
What exactly about the exhibit makes it so hard to believe these French librarians are scholars and not perverts? The fact that the exhibition’s subject is sex? The atmospheric lighting (which I find charming and funny)? Or is this just another instance of Puritan America crossing its arms and frowning at what it perceives as Europe’s flippancy towards sex?

Ill? You can do more than just Google your symptoms at the library…
An article at the UK’s Guardian Unlimited cites both literary precedent and anecdotal evidence suggesting that reading isn’t just good for one’s mind, but for the body as well.
The article says quite a few places in Britain have adopted reading-for-self-healing sort of book groups; I wonder if there are (m)any here in the States? So many people are worried about books and literature becoming obsolete in the face of video games/the Internet/computers’ growing popularity. Starting book groups like this at libraries (either instead of or in addition to starting them in more health-oriented places like hospitals) would seem a good way to help keep books relevant.
